City & Guilds 2395-01 Periodic Inspection and Testing and Certification Courseat The Builder Training Centre is a new qualification that includes both hands-on practical and theory elements. Ideally suited for practicing electricians who have not carried out inspection and testing since qualifying or require a refresher course before progressing onto other qualifications, or those with limited experience of periodic inspection of electrical installations. 

The 2395 qualification has been introduced to replace the City & Guilds 2391-10.  Ideally candidates will have either the City & Guilds 2392-10 or 2394-01 qualification prior to attending this course.

The Builder Training Centre (The BTC) offers high quality structured 2395 Periodic Inspection and Testing Courses. These can be attended as a 4 day weekday course or, for those that have commitments during the week, over 2 consecutive weekends. Our instructors are qualified, highly experienced, knowledgeable and enthusiastic Tradespersons, so students can take full advantage of all the tips of the trade, personal experiences and practical advice they offer. This short course is intensive, but no compromise is made on the course content.  The atmosphere is relaxed and enjoyable which creates a good learning environment. 

This City & Guilds 2395 electrical course is ideal for people limited experience of periodic inspection of electrical installations. If you already work as an Electrician, but have not carried out inspection and testing since qualifying, or you require to update before moving onto other qualifications, then this may be the course for you. 

City & Guilds 2395-01 Periodic Inspection and Testing Course Content:  

Principles, practices and legislation for the periodic inspection, testing and condition reporting of electrical installations.  

  • Requirements for completing the safe isolation of electrical circuits and installations
  • Requirements for inspecting, testing and recording the condition of electrical installations
  • Requirements for completing the periodic inspection of electrical installations
  • Differences between periodic inspection and initial verification
  • Requirements for safe testing of electrical installations which have been put in to service
  • Requirements for testing before circuits are energised.
  • Requirements for testing energised installations
  • Understanding and interpreting test results
  • Requirements for the completion of electrical installation condition reports and associated documentation
  • Confirmation of safety of system and equipment prior to completion of inspection, testing and commissioning
  • Carrying out inspection of electrical installations prior to them being put into service
  • Ability to test electrical installations prior to them being put into service
  • Produce a condition report with recording observations and classification 

In order to claim the full 2395 qualification, students must successfully complete each of the following 3 units: 

a.  On-line multiple choice test – 1 hour, multiple choice, on-line (40 questions) –(unit 2395-301) – 2 credits

b.  One written test (unit 2395-302) – 2 credits

c.  One assignment (unit 2395-303) – 1 credit 

a.  Multiple choice on-line exam unit 2395-301 is the same test as for 2394-301, so if you have already successfully passed this unit, it can contribute towards the 2395 qualification. 

b. Written Test (Unit 2395-302) – 1 hour, 30 minutes. Dates are pre-set by City & Guilds for 6.30 pm (to 8.00 pm) on selected Tuesdays. 

 c. Assignment (2395-303) – To complete 2 tasks: 

1.  Visual inspection (30 minutes) – closed book

2.  Periodic inspection and test (1 hours 30 minutes plus 30 minutes to complete paperwork) – open book

Pre-requisites  

You must be at least 18 years of age.  

A basic knowledge and understanding of electrical science and principles and experience of electrical installation work within the electrical contracting industry or an allied trade.  Ideally students should have achieved either the City & Guilds 2392-10 or 2394-01 qualification.

We have facilities for men and women! You will find our prices are competitive, and include the use of tools and materials for your 2395 Course whilst you are here, but for health and safety reasons you are required to have steel toe capped footwear to wear throughout the course. These can be purchased from our reception on your first morning for £20 if required.  Students may bring in their own test instruments, however, it is the responsibility of the student to ensure the accuracy of any instrument.
