The following information provides an explanation of why some of the City & Guilds Electrical Qualifications are changing.
Changes to City & Guilds Electrical Qualifications
With the introduction of the 1st Amendment to the 17th Edition, published in July 2011, which comes into effect from1st January 2012, any City & Guilds qualification which requires students to have knowledge of the British Standard Wiring Regulations must comply with the updated standards. The following Electrical Qualifications are therefore due to change:
2382-10 Level 3 Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations 17th Edition
2391-10 Level 3 Certificate in Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations
These qualifications are to be redeveloped so that they are part of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF), and comply with the 1st Amendment.
2382 Requirements for Electrical Installations 17th Edition
Until 31st December 2011 students may register for the 2382-10 and answer using either the 2008 (red book) or 2011 (green book) version of the Wiring Regulations. However, after that date, students can only register for the 2382-12 and must answer in line with the 2011 1st Amendment only.
The 2382-12 is now available, and students registering for this qualification will be required to answer in line with the 2011 (green book) version of the Wiring Regulations.
The 2382-10 qualification and 2382-20 qualification will close on 31st December 2011. There will no longer be an update qualification after the end of 2011.
The 2382-12 will continue to be an open-book on-line multiple-choice assessment.
Cost
The cost of booking the 2382-12 qualification course remains the same cost as the 2382-10, namely £415.00 (or £400.00 for returning BTC electrical students), including vat and registration costs.
2391-10 Certificate in Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installation
The 2391 closes for new registrations on 31st July 2012, with a final certification date of 31st December 2013. Dated entry examinations will continue to be available until the summer of 2012. The following dates have been set by City & Guilds:

From 1st January 2012, students must answer in line with the 2011 1st Amendment only.
It is not anticipated that students who hold 2391 units will be able to use those towards the new qualifications. Students who have achieved one of the 2391 units but not completed the full qualification should ensure they complete the remaining unit prior to the final certification date.
The existing suite of 2391 qualifications will be replaced by the following qualifications:
2394-01 Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations
2395-01 Level 3 Award in the Periodic Inspection,Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations
2396-01 Level 4 Award in the Design and Verification of Electrical Installations
All the above qualifications are due to launch in December 2011, will be on the QCF, and will be written in line with BS 7671: 2008 (2011)
2394-01 Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Qualifications
2394-01 will be assessed by an on-line test (40 questions) plus one dated exam plus a practical task. The following dates have been set by City & Guilds for the dated exam:

2395-01 Level 3 Award in the Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations
