Overview

The Builder Training Centre (The BTC) offers high quality structured Domestic Installers (Part P) courses, which can be attended either as a weekday course (Generally Monday to Thursday) or, for those that have commitments during the week, a weekend course (2 consecutive weekends).

Our instructors are qualified, highly experienced, knowledgeable and enthusiastic Tradespersons, so students can take advantage of all the tips of the trade, personal experiences and advice they offer. This short course is intensive, but the atmosphere is relaxed and enjoyable which creates a good learning environment.

This Domestic Installers Course is aimed at those who regularly carry out electrical work in support of their main trade. This mainly consists of kitchen fitters, plumbers, carpenters and builders, but also extends to anyone carrying out electrical work in the home. This is an essential step for people looking to progress onto becoming an Electrician.

From January 2005 all electrical work in dwellings is required to comply with Approved Document P (electrical safety) requirements and to be carried out by persons competent to do the work. Any work that involves adding a new circuit, or work within a special location, will need to be notified to building control or carried out by a competent person who is registered with a Self-Certification Scheme.

Entrants will be expected to have a basic level of electrical installation and testing skills. Individuals without these skills should consider our 4-day electrical foundation course as the initial step toward becoming an electrician.

Steel toe-capped safety footwear is a health and safety requirement for all our courses. We stock steel-toe capped boots from size 3 to 13 (with some half sizes), which can be purchased on the first morning of your course for just £20.00. You should wear suitable comfortable clothing.

You are welcome to bring your own food to eat in our centre. Alternatively, we sell a small selection of hot and cold drinks and snacks in our canteen, or you could purchase food from one of the local supermarkets/shops/cafes/restaurants within just a few minutes’ walk.

Most students also find it beneficial to bring Post-it notes or sticky tags, which they can use to separate their books into sections. Additionally, a pen and a non-programmable calculator are permitted for the exam.

Provided you are aged at least 18 years and have a basic knowledge of electrical principles, this course is suitable for you. Whether your background is already in a trade or something completely different, these skills can be learnt and applied directly after the course.

Candidates will need to attend the 4-day Electrical Foundation Course or have equivalent experience in electrical installation, inspection and testing before enrolling in the Domestic Installers Course.

The content and total hours of the course are the same. Additionally, it is usually the same tutor who conducts the course.

Both courses will run from 8.30am to approximately 5pm.

If you meet the pass criteria of the online theory exam, you will be awarded the following qualification certificate:

City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in the Building Regulations for Electrical Installations in Dwellings (2393-10)

If you are also successful with the internal examinations and practical assessments, you will be awarded a CPD certificate.

As we are located within Waddon Train Station Buildings, we do not have any parking on-site. That said, there are plenty of residential roads in the surrounding area that have free unrestricted parking, within just a few minutes’ walk. If attending on Sunday, you can park in the marked red boxes in Epsom Road where our Centre at Waddon Station is situated and in Stafford Road where our Electrical Centre is situated (a minute’s walk away) all day free of charge.

Please email info@thebtc-co-uk.preview-domain.com if you would like any further information or instructions.
